Terrace Haven is a 3-story residence located on a sloping site in the hills of Las Vegas. The house is composed of terraced volumes that follow the site’s natural gradient, with gardens enveloping the main spaces. The design showcases contemporary Southwestern architecture, integrating details and materials that reflect traditional elements.
The ground floor houses the service areas, while private rooms are situated on the second floor. Public areas are on the third floor. A shed roof shelters the entrance, leading into a double-height foyer with a view of the sloping garden that parallels the stairs. Directly above is a mezzanine-like family area overlooking the foyer and leading into the bedrooms. The master bedroom opens into a terraced pocket garden.
A continuous flight of stairs connects the terraced rooms, culminating in an open-plan public space surrounded by outdoor areas and gardens. Built-in plant boxes behind the roof allow shrubs and vines to blend seamlessly into the house, while the roof overhangs provide shade from the sun and rain. The top floor features a roof deck, offering an outdoor space with views of the desert landscape and the city beyond.
The design is a contemporary interpretation of traditional desert dwellings, applied to the hillside property. Sustainable design elements are incorporated, with greenery, daylight, and breezes acting as natural palettes that subtly define the house’s character.
